You‘re fired [AND THIS IS SO IMPORTANT TO ME]

The concept and the various art works and projects have emerged from my own experience of what it means to get FIRED and losing your job as senior lecturer in fine arts education faculty after 31 years of work.

In the beginning, this performative and conceptual act was perhaps more of a way to come to terms with the new situation and a concrete means of mental processing and healing. But eventually, after being able to connect the dots between a private and a public experience, I noticed that this turned out to be more and more a subject to dig deeper into, evolving into a specific vocabulary for artistic expression. My personal starting point is not that crucial anymore, because the very same situation affects many other people. What interests me more now is how to visualize this complex web of emotions and notions from different angles, transforming it into other contexts and meanings. The idea is to make it just slightly more abstract but at the same time also accessible, readable and visible to other sites and backgrounds.

In our current times of winner-takes-it-all capitalism, it is a high time to recognize and respect what we have in common, what brings us together. We are not alone, and yes, it is time to share, it is time to speak up and act!
